Here in Europe, a popular piece of furniture for babies is the Doomoo Seat. This smart Dutch design is a bean bag which can be used for newborns, but also for older kids. It has two interchangeable upper layers: one with a safety harness (for babies), and one without (for kids).
We bought one when Norah was a baby, and it has given us a lot of pleasure and convenience. Norah is now passing on her Doomoo Seat to Ava, but as the last thing we want is to give her the feeling that she has to give up certain things for her little sister, I made Norah a brand new one in the week before Ava was born.
While the real Doomoo Seat opens and closes at the top with a giant zipper which goes all around the top layer, my version closes at the bottom, with velcro. The fabrics are Lotta Jansdotter's Glimma Kulla Orange Nut, and Glimma Tove Slate, bought in this Etsy shop. I combined them with yellow piping. The inside bean bag is filled with EPS pearls.
Because it's actually quite convenient to have two baby bean bags - I used to drag Norah's one around the house all the time - I'm also making a new bean bag for Ava, complete with safety harness. I'll also be sharing the pattern, and tutorial, hopefully in a week or two. :-)
