Little Lady Liberty (+ give-away)
A few weeks ago, I was asked if I would like to participate in the blog tour for a new book with projects in Liberty of London fabrics. Of course I would: not only did the book look really lovely; it also gave me the perfect excuse to treat myself to a piece of Liberty fabric. I love their Tana lawns: they are very finely woven, have a great drape, and keep their colors terrifically. I’ve been a fan of Liberty since I used it for this dress and these bubble skirts.
Little Lady Liberty is written by UK-based Alice Caroline, who owns her own Liberty of London fabric shop. The book has a over 20 different projects for little girls, such as quilts, baskets, cushions, and doll accessories. I went for a simple little girl’s skirt.
The book also explains how to embellish the skirt with ribbons, but when I finished the skirt, I loved the simple look so much that I decided to leave off the ribbons. The embellishments work better with a fabric with a fine print (as in the book) than with the bigger floral print I used.
I also made the skirt in a baby size for Ava, but taking pictures of her was not an option this weekend. She’s been battling a stomach flu in the past couple of days, and I don’t remember ever seeing her (or Norah) this ill.
I was so excited when I found the fabric in a lovely French store called Lil Weasel. It has such a lovely vintage look, and well… did I ever mention that I love mustard yellow? 😉 The fabric also came with the kindest note from shop owner Carine.
Sewing a project from this book was a very pleasant experience. The projects come with very clear instructions, and they have a very consistent visual style. Even if you are not into this very girly, romantic style, the projects are still great to make if you just pick a different style of fabrics. Which brings me to the give-away! I can raffle off one electronic copy of the book. The widget below gives you a few different opportunities to win. One of them is to answer the question: What is your favorite Liberty fabric? Here are some of my own Favorite Ever Liberty fabrics:
Maurverina D – Mitsi Grey- Caesar Black
Ellie Ruth Pink – Cue for the Zoo D – Arrow Mustard
