While I spend most of my time here in Tucson behind my laptop, working on the new version of the Tinny pattern, I also try to sew a bit. I was so lucky to find a machine here. After emailing three of the many quilting shops here in the neighborhood, and not getting a response, I finally stepped into the Quilt Basket. It’s a beautiful, big quilt shop, filled with state-of-the-art Bernina machines, and hundreds of fabrics. One of the employees, Sally, was incredibly kind, offering to lend me one of her personal machines, a Bernette.
The first Tinny I made here in hot Arizona was, ironically, a Winter version. I used a fabric I bought at Den Boom in Lier (a Belgian brick and mortar store) a few weeks ago. It’s a roughly woven cotton-polyester mix. I absolutely love it, and I’m already on the look out for similar fabrics.
This version of the Tinny is extremely quick to make. I left off the collar, I used the integrated cap sleeve option, and I picked the pleated skirt, which meant no time was wasted on gathering.
A simple gold satin ribbon adds the “princess factor” necessary to make Norah love a garment. And it works: she loves it so much that she doesn’t want to take her dress off anymore. Good thing we have airco.
