When Lotte Martens asked if I would be interested in using her fabrics to make a designer bag, it was difficult to say no. I’m a big fan of Lotte’s fabric, and it would give me the perfect excuse to finally buy a book which I had been admiring for a long time.
The book is called Mijn Designertas (‘My Designer Bag’) and has a truly unique concept. The authors (bloggers Elisanna and Fynn) translated 10 bags designed by 10 Belgian designers into diy patterns and instructions. I picked the clutch designed by Annelies Timmermans, because I love the clean lines, the minimalism, and the seams, which add to the geometric look of the bag.
My first plan was to use some fabric of Lotte’s beautiful new line. Then, however, I remembered that I had a very small piece of a fabric from Lotte’s first line, a leftover from this dress. As small as it was, I didn’t have the heart to throw it away, and had been hoping to find a project for it. It was just enough for making the clutch.
The clutch closes with a magnetic snap. I put the flowers on the purse upside down, so that it would look as if the flowers were hanging up to dry*.
Making the clutch was a cakewalk. The instructions are clear and self-evident, and the pattern pieces are clearly marked and easy to find on the sheet.
And as usual, working with the Lotte’s fabric was a great pleasure. I have three more of her fabrics in my stash, which I can’t wait to turn into a garment for my girls.

*It may or may not be closer to the truth that I accidentally cut the front piece upside down.
